The Problem

It can be difficult to find somewhere to eat that fits with your diet and lifestyle. It can be especially difficult if someone is vegetarian/vegan or if a person suffers from any food allergies.

The Goal

To be able to search for local healthy places to eat. Find restaurants and cafes that serve healthy food options. Also give reviews and upload pictures. Can also filter your search based on one’s dietary needs. Bookmark and share your favorite places.

Style Guide

The number of people who have dietary restrictions is growing and many are choosing to follow a certain diet and lifestyle.

Over the years there has been a rise in food related allergies and intolerances to different types of ingredients. With that people are being extra conscious of the types of food they are consuming.

The following are some of the main food restriction people may have:

I analyzed different food apps with similar features to gather ideas on what expectations users will have.

The purpose of this competitor analysis was to understand the common features we see in food search apps. With VeggieBite there will be more personalization when it comes to searching/recommending places to eat based on lifestyle and diet.

Meet the users

I created three different persons who I believe would benefit from using this app. It is no surprise that many people today are choosing to incorporate more plant based meals into their diet. Also with the growing intolerances to different types of foods people are developing and with the concern of ethically sourced ingredients.

Site map with flow description

Katie wants to find a vegetarian friendly place to eat with her family and uses the app to find local restaurants that have vegetarian options on the menu.

Style Guide

I wanted to keep the app logo and branding minimal and simple. I incorporated an earthy theme to give a healthy and fresh look and feel for the app.

There will be four main screens for the app where the users can navigate from on the bottom menu.

On the explore page you have the option to your filter search. browse places by different category or look through popular/ recommended places. If selecting a category you will be given a list of different locations based off a users preference.

Personalization is important. I wanted to include as many dietary preferences to filter a search for a user’s dietary needs.

Along with dietary preference you can also filter search based on price, rating and category. Users can view their search by location on a map. There will also be an option to leave a review for places users have visited and upload and share pictures.

Users can see a list of places they have visited and save their favorite places to their collections.

Reflection

I felt like there was an app missing for people who want to search for food but also have a specific lifestyle and dietary restrictions. I know it can be a struggle for people with specific dietary needs to enjoy themselves with friends and family when they have to eat out. So I chose to create an app that aims at addressing this issue and I hope to have achieved that goal. I wanted to create an app so that anybody no matter what dietary background a person has, can easily find a place to eat, even at common fast food and restaurant chains.
